The other day an acquaintance asked — “Hey Ranveer, My daughter is 5. Is it okay to enroll her in a chess class so that she becomes a professional?”

Having played chess for 14 years, this is a very common question I come across.

And here are my two answers, for 2 seperate occasions😉

👉 Easiest(when I’m at a social gathering): Yes, enroll her.

👉 Tricky(when I’m 1–1 with them): Yes, enroll in a chess class as well as a cricket class, tennis class, coding class, and then gauge what she likes…

As a child, I dabbled in many other activities like cricket, piano, swimming, skating before sticking to chess.

And so did many of my chess-playing friends.

It’s often when you try different things, you discover what you really like and what you are really good at.

So keep trying and experimenting!

And the next time you think of enrolling your child for some chess lessons, also think about enrolling many them in others.

Let them explore their natural curiosity!

What advice would you give to someone who’s just starting out in your field?

Drop it in the comments below!
